HOW WE STARTED
Houselight began in early 2018 when Jayne McLendon and Octavia Chavez-Richmond set out to produce the new play Capsized (written by Octavia), which was developed in a playwriting workshop led by Trinity Rep's Deb Salem-Smith in the fall of 2017. After growing as a cohort for three years in the Brown/Trinity actor incubator, Houselight seeks to be an artistic home for graduates of the Brown/Trinity program and other joyous, like-minded (or rather, like-hearted) artists.
Houselight sets out to produce new works by emerging playwrights and screenwriters as well as reimagined existing works, and hopes to give voice to those who have not yet had the chance to have their story told. We strive to be reckless and daring in our storytelling, while believing that sometimes the quietest voices can be the most powerful. It takes only a little light to tell a story in a simple and compelling way.
